Mr. Waggaman is known for his ability to reduce the most complex factual and legal issues to a comprehensible form and for clearly and persuasively communicating them to a jury, judge, or arbitrator.
Douglas S. Waggaman is a seasoned business litigator with a record of successful prosecution and defense in innumerable business disputes over more than thirty years. He began his legal practice with a highly-regarded West Los Angeles business firm, then moved to San Diego to join an established firm engaged in a wide variety of litigation. He and several long-time colleagues later founded Spach, Capaldi & Waggaman, LLP.
Mr. Waggaman also spent several years with Denver-based Gerrity Oil & Gas Corp., where he served as Senior Vice President, Director, and General Counsel. That experience has made him particularly committed to delivering to corporate clients’ legal service of the highest quality, while ensuring that the costs are never disproportionate to the case’s real value to the client.
Mr. Waggaman’s practice has spanned such diverse fields as construction (where he has represented owners, general contractors, and subcontractors), asset-based lending, shareholder dissension and corporate dissolutions, bankruptcy (primarily on behalf of creditors), software and technology, First Amendment, unfair competition, copyright, and real estate, both at the trial court and appellate levels.
Leading the firm’s San Diego office, Mr. Waggaman enjoys a well-earned reputation as a legal strategist of consummate skill. He is known for his ability to reduce the most complex factual and legal issues to a comprehensible form and for clearly and persuasively relating them to a jury, judge, or arbitrator. He prides himself on his close and complete communication with this clients.
A graduate of UCLA School of Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif, Mr. Waggaman oversees the firm’s general business litigation practice in San Diego while working closely with the attorneys in the Newport Beach office on complex matters.
